The old adage is completely true, “Find a job that you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” Of course, you should look for a job that keeps you motivated by its very nature. Passion is an important factor to consider while choosing a job, but you should not let it be the dealbreaker. Here are some other factors that you should also take into account:

1. Growth opportunities:

Jobs that provide growth opportunities are especially important in the early years of your career. You should look for a job that helps you grow and allows you to work hard. This could be through challenging assignments, on the job training, strict mentors, etc. Such a job will help you grow beyond your current skill set and open new doors in life.

2. Team

Your future coworkers are going to be the people you spend a large part of your day around. Hence, it is important that you are comfortable around them. Moreover, knowing that they support and respect you helps you work better as a team. You should pay attention to how coworkers interact with each other and take note of management as they work with junior staff.

 3. Company culture:

Besides making sure that you are a good fit for the job, it is also very important to determine if the company is a good fit for you. If you can, reach out to current and previous employees and find out if they are happy working there, and how they’re treated by the company. You might want to ask yourself questions like: Does the company’s values align with my own? Will I enjoy working in this office environment?

4. Pay check:

Let’s be realistic- salary does matter and it is often the most sought after aspect of a job. Your compensation package should be able to meet your basic needs and help you plan for the future. As you choose a job, be sure to review your budget and understand how much you need to earn to pay your bills. You may also want to consider the amount you owe in student loans.
