  1. Fill in the complete profile- Write a strong profile introduction and use good vocabulary. List out all the schools and colleges you have attended, and all your previous jobs and work experiences. You never know what a recruiter might find interesting so putting in everything is the fastest way to high visibility.

  2. Add as many influential connections as possible- The more people you are connected to, the more visible you are. If you have a chance to interact with someone influential, do go for it. If you engage with them then you will be noticed by their followers, and they might follow you.

  3. Answer questions- LinkedIn Answers is a feature that allows you to ask questions. You can find it under the ‘More’ tab along the top of your home page after logging in. You can search for questions in your area of expertise (for example ‘marketing’) and can also see recent questions asked by people in your network. Answers are an excellent way to exhibit your expertise and to help others – the key to successful networking.

  4. Update your status on a regular basis- When you update your status, everyone can see it, so it is an excellent way to make yourself visible. Even if one of your contacts who knows about an available opportunity sees your status, they will know that they can recommend it to you. This might just secure you an interview. It only takes a minute, and it is a great way to show your professional trajectory.

  5. Upload a good photo- Recruiters look at everything from the very start. A statistic shows that profiles that include a profile photo are 21% more likely to be viewed than those without one. They are also 9 times more likely to receive connection requests. Sometimes it is the most obvious things like a good display picture that is overlooked. Upload a professional picture with a good resolution.

  6. List your skills- Talk about all the skills you have mastered and list them with pride. The more skills you have, the more impressed the employers will be. Having five or more skills is a good number to have in order to showcase your talents.

  7. Online etiquette- Wish your followers when special occasions come up. Be sure to wish them a happy birthday or anniversary as a small gesture goes a long way. Another important habit is to keep the negative comments fewer. Encouraging and optimistic comments are always liked more and are visually pleasing to read through.
