It is highly recommended to ask your interviewer relevant and thoughtful questions at a job interview. When you ask questions that are tailored to the company and its objectives, you are showing the hiring manager that you have a strong interest in the organization. Asking the right questions, besides helping you understand whether the position is a good fit for you, leaves a very strong impression on your interviewer. Here are some examples of the questions you could ask:

1. Questions about the job

It is important to ask questions about your role to get a clearer idea of your suitability for it. Moreover, it conveys your interest in the work. You can ask something like: How will my role evolve as I continue to work here?

2. Questions about other departments

When you ask questions about collaboration and collective effort, you are showing the interviewer that you are a team player and would be willing to give your best to ensure the success of the organization. You could ask: Which other departments does this team most often collaborate with?

3. Questions about the organization

It might be of interest to ask some questions about how this role will contribute towards your professional development and help you advance in your career. It also shows the employer that you are willing to learn and that you value your position. Ask a question like: Does the company have a learning and development program?

4. Questions about company culture

Working at an office requires you to adjust well into the environment of the organisation. This might not always be easy, especially if this is your first time working for an organisation. Hence, it is crucial to understand what the company values in its employees. Here’s an example: What is the organisation’s strategy for diversity and inclusion?

Lastly, try to avoid asking questions that have already been answered, or simply asking no questions at all, as hiring managers expect candidates to have questions for them. Good questions can demonstrate genuine interest, as well as thoughtfulness, curiosity and understanding.
